Choosing Correct Custom Mast Adaptor

Custom Mast Adaptors are for those limited masts on the market that are not compatible with our new Universal Mast Adaptor. Follow these guidelines below to ensure you order the correct one for your mast.

As of Friday the 26th of April 2024, Foil Drive kits now come with a Universal Mast Adaptor. Continue reading below if the Universal Mast Adaptor does not work with your mast, and you need a custom adaptor.

WHAT IS A UNIVERSAL MOTOR POD?

The Universal Mounting Pod paired with the Mast Adaptor is one of the most important parts that allows Foil Drive™ to be retrofitted to a growing range of foil masts. To learn more about the universal mounting pod, click here.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The Mast Adaptor (C & D in the image below) is a two-part attachment which is clamped around your mast (This is why your pod selection is extremely important). Parts A & B are the Universal Mounting Pod which house the adaptor to secure it to your mast!

CHOOSING THE CORRECT ADAPTOR

It is imperative that you choose the correct mast adaptor for your mast specification, not just the same brand!

Note: Many foil brands change their mast design from year to year to improve strength or reduce drag. If you purchased your mast some time ago and you are unsure, please check with us at [email protected]

WHAT IF MY MAST IS NOT LISTED?

A. If your mast is on the compatibility chart but not in the drop-down menu on the website, please email [email protected] with the following:

Please let us know if you wish to order additional parts i.e. You also want to order a Universal Mounting Pod and spare bolts. '

We will then create a custom invoice for you. Please also outline if you would like standard or express postage, and ensure you include your postal address for shipping.

DOUBLE CHECKING MEASUREMENTS

The two key measurements to ensure you have the right adaptor is to compare the cord length (from trailing edge to leading edge) and the thickness (how wide the mast is).

Note: Measurements not specifically named "E-foil" are taken 20-25cm below the mounting plate of your mast, this is important for tapered masts.

WHAT TO CONSIDER IF YOU HAVE A TAPERED MAST

Tapered masts measure at 20-25cm below mounting base plate, however, some masts are tapered and may affect what adjustments you have to make to mount your adapter.

Note: If your mast has quite an aggressive taper, please ensure you have measured your mast accurately!

MY ADAPTOR IS SLIGHTLY TOO BIG

If the adaptor is only slightly bigger than the mast (between 1-3mm), you can add thin layers of electrical tape or insertion rubber to pack it out.

Be careful not to add too much! We recommend adding one layer at a time.
