Securing the Gen2 LatchesUpdated 5 months ago

The latches on your Gen2 system are designed as over centre latches, made of glass fibre, nylon injection moulded plastic. This makes them strong and rigid, but also subject to being overloaded from misuse - which can cause damage to your latches, bolts or nose cone. This article teaches you about the proper technique for securing your Gen2 latches, and how to avoid overloading and breaking them.

To get a visual on proper latching technique, watch the video below:

How to Latch the Box Correctly

1. Fully insert your battery into the unit housing.

2. Insert the nose cone over the battery, and ensure it is flush with the electronics box surface.

3. Lift up the latches, and engage the hooks in position with the nose cone cavities. Make sure the hooks are fully engaged into the nose cone.

4. Ensure to latch both latches simultaneously. This ensures the nose cone and latches are both fully seated, with even load between latches to pull the nose cone in and properly secure your unit.

Things to Look Out for When Securing the Latches

1. If there is a gap between the nose cone and box, the battery may not be fully inserted, or there could be debris stuck in the nose cone. Do not attempt to use the latches to close this gap. Remove the nose cone and push the battery in securely so the gap is fully closed.

2. Make sure the hook of the latch is fully received into the nose cone cavity. After repeated uses, your latch may grab on to the nose cone ridge on the bottom of the cavity, causing excess strain when being secured.

3. Ensure to latch simultaneously as this pulls the nose cone in straight with even load on both sides.

4. Make sure to pull the latch lever over the nose cone ridge prior to latching. Leaving the latch flush to the board when pushing down causes the material to stretch, which wears down the material and puts the latches at risk of coming undone.

If you have broken a latch and need a replacement, your kit comes with two spare latches. Click here to learn more about replacing the latches.
