This article covers common battery charging questions and best practices to help you get the most from your battery and charger.

Charging to Full vs Storage Charge
The Foil Drive 43V Charger supports two charging modes:
- Normal Charging: Charges the battery to 100%.
- Storage Charge: Charges the battery to approximately 60%.
When should I use each mode?
Use Normal Charging when you are preparing for your next session and want the battery fully charged.
Use Storage Charge when you have finished using the battery and are storing it until your next session.
We recommend using Storage Charge after every session.
Charging Fusion Batteries
The Fusion 860 battery can be charged either:
- Through the Battery Caddy, or
- Directly by connecting the 43V Charger to the battery.
Both methods charge the battery in the same way.
The Battery Caddy can provide useful information about the battery's state of charge, but it is not required for charging.

Storage Charging After Riding
If you have ridden your battery down to a very low state of charge, particularly a single-digit percentage, it is important to recharge it to Storage Charge within a few hours.
Gen2.5 batteries contain an active Battery Management System (BMS) and Bluetooth system. These systems consume a very small amount of power even when the battery is not being used.
If a battery is left at a very low state of charge for an extended period, this small ongoing power consumption can eventually cause the battery to become over-discharged.
Best practice after every session
- Finish your session.
- Connect the battery to the 43V Charger.
- Select Storage Charge.
- Allow the battery to charge to approximately 60%.
- Disconnect the battery and store it in a suitable location.
This keeps the battery at an appropriate storage level and means you will have less charging time before your next session.
Long-Term Storage
If your battery will not be used for several months, such as over winter:
- Charge the battery to Storage Charge (approximately 60%).
- Store it in a cool, dry location.
- Avoid leaving the battery at a very low state of charge.
Important: Do not store a battery that has been discharged below approximately 10% for an extended period.
The battery's BMS and Bluetooth system continue to consume a small amount of power while the battery is stored. Over time, this can cause the battery voltage to fall below its safe operating voltage.
A battery stored correctly at Storage Charge can typically remain healthy for many months.

Never Charge a Wet, Damaged or Dropped Battery
Do not connect a battery to the charger if it has been wet, damaged or dropped.
This includes batteries that:
- Have been dropped or suffered a significant impact
- Show visible damage, cracks, dents or deformation
- Have a damaged battery case
- Have been exposed to water internally
- Are swollen or otherwise appear abnormal
- Have damaged connectors or cables
Do not attempt to charge, use or repair a battery if you suspect it has been damaged.
A damaged lithium battery can present a serious safety risk, particularly when charging.
If your battery has been damaged or is behaving abnormally
Stop using it and follow the appropriate Battery Emergency Procedure.
Charging Environment
Always charge your battery in a suitable environment.
Recommended
- Cool, dry and well-ventilated area
- Stable, suitable AC power supply
- Battery positioned on a stable, non-combustible surface
- Charger ventilation kept clear
Avoid
- Direct sunlight
- Excessive heat
- Charging inside a hot vehicle
- Covering the charger while it is operating
- Wet or damp charging locations
- Poor-quality power supplies or unstable generators
Allow the charger to ventilate while charging and keep the cooling fan unobstructed.
What if Storage Charge is selected when the battery is already above 60%?
This is normal.
Storage Charge is designed to charge the battery up to approximately 60%. It does not discharge the battery.
If the battery is already above the storage-charge level, the charger will stop immediately because no additional charging is required.
The charger may display solid yellow in this situation.
Do not expect Storage Charge Mode to reduce a battery that is already above 60%.
If you need a full battery for your next session, switch back to Normal Charging and charge the battery to 100%.
Battery Charging Best Practices
For the best battery life and safe operation:
- Storage charge after every session.
- Recharge very low batteries to Storage Charge within a few hours.
- Do not leave a battery below approximately 10% for extended periods.
- Use the correct 43V Charger for your 43V battery.
- Charge in a cool, dry and well-ventilated location.
- Keep the charger ventilation clear.
- Do not charge a battery that has been dropped, damaged or become wet.
- Inspect the battery and connectors before charging.
- Store the battery at approximately 60% when it will not be used for an extended period.

Finished riding and storing until your next session?
→ Storage Charge to approximately 60%.
Battery below 10%?
→ Recharge to Storage Charge within a few hours.
Battery wet, dropped, damaged or behaving abnormally?

Battery already above 60% in Storage Charge Mode?
→ The charger will stop. This is normal.
