Battery and Charger Storage GuidelinesUpdated 2 hours ago
Proper charging, usage, and storage of your Foil Drive battery is essential for performance, longevity, and safety.
Following the guidelines below will help you get the most out of your battery and avoid costly damage caused by incorrect storage practices.
Battery Storage Charging After Riding
If you've ridden your battery down to a very low state of charge (10% or below), it is important to recharge it to Storage Charge within a few days.
Fusion batteries contain an active BMS and Bluetooth system which consume a very small amount of power, even while the battery is stored.
Leaving a heavily discharged battery for an extended period can result in over-discharge.
Best practice
After your session:
- place the battery on Storage Charge
- allow it to reach storage level (~60%)
- store it in the provided Lipo Bag in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
This keeps the battery healthy and means your next full charge is quicker.
Long-Term Storage (Winter Storage)
For long-term storage, batteries must be kept in their provided Lipo Bag and stored correctly.
Ideal storage conditions:
- Charge level: ~60%
- Temperature: 5–20°C (ideal ~15°C)
- Environment: Cool, dry, well ventilated
- Away from:
- heat sources
- flammables
- direct sunlight
- excessive moisture
Why this matters:
Improper storage can lead to:
- Reduced battery lifespan
- Permanent capacity loss
- Safety risks in extreme cases
How to Set Battery to Storage Level
If your battery is not already at storage level:
Option 1 – Foil Drive Discharge Device
- Use a Foil Drive battery discharge device (if available for your system)
Option 2 – Charge Battery After Use
Charge battery after use
- Engage storage mode on compatible Foil Drive Chargers (this will stop charging the battery at 60% state of charge)
- Charge using an inline battery checker to monitor stator of charge
- Set a timer for approximately 1 hour and disconnect battery from charger. The goal is to land between 40–60%
Charger Storage Guidelines
These guidelines apply to all Foil Drive chargers.
Best practices:
- Store in a cool, dry place
- Ensure good airflow during use (fan must ventilate heat)
- Keep out of direct sunlight
Avoid:
- Leaving in hot vehicles
- Covering while charging
- Exposure to heavy rain or submersion
