Change Removable Cable Lengths on Your V2 MotorUpdated 3 hours ago
Swapping cables on the V2 Motor System is fast and straightforward — and gives you the ability to dial in your perfect riding setup for each board, style, or condition. This article outlines the proper method to change cables, avoid damage, and ensure watertight reliability.
What You’ll Need
A V2 Motor
A compatible Foil Drive V2 Cable (available in multiple lengths)
Foil Drive Electrical Connector Grease
A 2.5mm Allen Driver (included in your kit)
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Prepare the Connection
Ensure the red O-ring is installed on the V2 Motor plug.
Inspect both plugs (motor and cable) for debris or corrosion — clean if necessary.
Apply a thin ring of Foil Drive Electrical Connector Grease around the outside of the plug lip (not inside the electrical pins).
2. Connect the Cable to the V2 Motor
Align the plug pins carefully and push the cable straight in until it sits flush with the motor face.
Do not force or wiggle the cable — proper alignment is key to protecting the pins.
3. Attach the Puck Housing
Place the V2 Motor Puck over the cable and motor face, ensuring the bolt holes align and the cable exit is facing up.
Insert the M4 x 16mm bolts using light finger pressure to start each thread evenly.
Once all bolts are started, gently tighten them using your 2.5mm Allen key.
4. Connect to the Electronics Box
Plug the other end of the cable into your Assist MAX or Assist Slim Electronics Box.
Ensure the Motor Pod is mounted so the cable has a smooth arc into the mast — avoid sharp bends or tension.
Tips to Avoid Damage
Never pull or torque the cable at the plug — always support the cable where it exits the puck.
Avoid excessive tension in your rig — a gentle downward arc is ideal.
Do not tape over the plug — only secure the trailing cable to the Mast Adaptor with electrical tape or zip ties.
Why Change Cable Lengths?
Shorter cables are ideal for prone, wake, and minimal setups.
Longer cables suit SUP, wing, and downwind where the pod is mounted lower on the mast.
Modular cables let you experiment with different riding styles — cost-effectively.
Rider Tip
“Try different cable lengths. They do feel different in the water, and it’s never been easier to switch.” – Paul from Foil Drive
