Understanding Throttle LimitUpdated 2 hours ago

The Throttle Limit function allows you to set a maximum throttle percentage on your V2 Controller.

For example, if the Throttle Limit is set to 50%, pulling the throttle trigger fully will only command a maximum of 50% throttle.

This can be useful for riders who do not need the full power of the system, beginners learning to ride, or anyone wanting to reduce the sensitivity of the throttle trigger.

Important: The Throttle Limit does not automatically return to 100%. If you want access to the full throttle range again, you must manually change the setting back to 100%.

Why Use a Throttle Limit?

The Throttle Limit can be useful for:

  • New or less experienced riders who aren't comfortable using 100% throttle.
  • Lightweight riders who may not need the full power of the system.
  • Training, by reducing the amount of assistance provided by the Foil Drive.
  • More controlled riding, if you tend to use more throttle than necessary.

A smoother throttle response

Limiting the maximum throttle also changes how the physical movement of the trigger corresponds to the available throttle range.

For example, with the Throttle Limit set to 50%, the full movement of the trigger controls 0–50% throttle rather than 0–100%.

This means each increment of trigger movement represents a smaller portion of the overall throttle range, making the throttle feel less sensitive and easier to control.

How to Set the Throttle Limit

  1. Turn the controller on.
  2. Press and hold the Cruise Control Trigger (3) for approximately 3 seconds to release the LCK feature.
  3. Press and hold the Power Button (1) to enter the controller menu.
  4. Use short presses of the Power Button (1) to scroll to 2. Thr. Limit.
  5. Press and hold the Power Button (1) to enter the Throttle Limit setting.
  6. The default setting is 100%, displayed as 100.
  7. Press and hold the Power Button (1) to begin editing. The last digit will begin flashing.
  8. Use short presses of the Power Button (1) to change the flashing digit.
  9. Press and hold the Power Button (1) to move to the next digit.
  10. Repeat until your desired limit is displayed.

For example, to set a maximum throttle of 50%, set the display to:

050

  1. Press and hold the Power Button (1) to save the setting.
  2. Press the Cruise Control Trigger (3) twice to return to the main screen.

Your controller will now limit the maximum throttle to the selected percentage.

Available range

The Throttle Limit can be set between:

20–100%

Throttle Limit vs Motor Power Settings

The Throttle Limit and the Foil Drive app's motor power settings are two separate functions.

Throttle Limit

The Throttle Limit controls how much throttle the controller can command.

For example:

Throttle Limit = 50%

The controller can only command up to 50% throttle, regardless of how far the trigger is pulled.

Motor Power Settings

Motor power settings configured through the Foil Drive app affect the motor's available thrust output.

Because these settings work independently, reducing both can further reduce the system's overall output.

For example, if you have a reduced power mode selected in the app and also set a low Throttle Limit on the controller, the resulting thrust will be lower than using either limitation by itself.

Important: The Throttle Limit is not a motor power or thrust setting. It limits the throttle command from the controller.

Using Throttle Limit for Training

The Throttle Limit can be useful as a training tool for riders who want to improve their foiling skills.

Reducing the maximum assistance from the Foil Drive means you need to contribute more of your own power through:

  • Paddling
  • Wing power
  • Pumping
  • Foiling technique

For example, setting the Throttle Limit to 50% means that even with the trigger fully pulled, the controller can only command 50% throttle.

This can help riders gradually reduce their reliance on motor assistance while developing their foiling skills.

Remember to Reset the Throttle Limit

The Throttle Limit stays at the selected percentage until you change it.

It does not automatically return to 100%.

If you lend your Foil Drive to another rider, or want to return to full throttle, make sure you check the Throttle Limit first.

To restore full throttle:

Menu → 2. Thr. Limit → 100

Tip: If your Foil Drive seems to have less power than expected, check that the Controller Throttle Limit has not been set below 100%.
