The result is a cleaner, more efficient ride with minimal compromise to foil performance.
Which Mast Should I Choose?
There are two motor position options available.
Assist Mast (17 cm Motor Position)
Best suited for:
- Foil Assist riding
- Downwind foiling
- Wing foiling
- SUP foiling
- Prone foiling
- Hybrid riding styles
The Assist motor position is ideal for riders who use short bursts of power to get onto foil before riding using swell, wind or wave energy.
Because the motor sits higher on the mast:
- The motor exits the water once flying.
- Drag is reduced while riding.
- Surface motoring to the lineup is easy.
- Upwind travel requires less effort.
- The motor stays tucked close to the board and out of the way while foiling.
This is the recommended option for the majority of Foil Drive Assist riders.
E-Foil Mast
Best suited for:
- Leisure cruising
- Flatwater riding
- Longer powered sessions
- Continuous motor use
- Learning and experimenting with foil setups
The motor is positioned deeper in the water, providing:
- Consistent propulsion
- Reliable thrust through turns
- Smooth cruising at lower speeds
- Improved performance during continuous powered riding
This configuration is ideal if you intend to spend most of your session riding under power.
System Compatibility
Assist Mast
The Assist mast is supplied with the motor cable preset for:
- MAX
- SLIM
If using the Assist mast with a Fusion battery, the motor cable must be extended using a Barnacle Cable Extender.
E-Foil Mast
The E-Foil mast is supplied with the motor cable preset for:
- Fusion
If using the E-Foil mast with a MAX or SLIM battery, you will need to create a pigtail loop to shorten the cable.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use either mast with any Foil Drive system?
Yes, however cable routing differs depending on your battery.
- Assist mast: Optimised for MAX and SLIM. Fusion users require a Barnacle Cable Extender.
- E-Foil mast: Optimised for Fusion. MAX and SLIM users will need to create a pigtail loop to shorten the cable.
Does the integrated mast reduce drag?
Yes. The integrated motor mount, Mini Pod design and optimised One-Lock collar significantly reduce drag compared to traditional external mounting systems, while maintaining excellent durability and ride feel.
Is the Assist mast suitable for beginners?
Absolutely. The Assist motor position is suitable for beginner, intermediate and advanced riders. It provides excellent assistance during take-off while keeping the motor high enough to minimise drag once you're flying.
Can I continuously ride under power with the Assist mast?
You can, but for riders who intend to spend most of their session cruising under power, the E-Foil configuration offers more consistent propulsion and is the better choice.
Where can I buy a mast?
You can purchase a mast directly from the Foil Drive website, or from your local dealer.
