This guide walks you through the installation process and highlights several important checks to help prevent cable damage, water ingress or installation difficulties.

Before You Begin
Before starting, ensure you have all required components.
Required Parts
- Carbon Integrated Mast
- V2 Foil Drive Motor (Standard or High Power)
- M5 Titanium Split Bolt (supplied with the mast)
- 4 × M4 Stator-to-puck bolts (supplied with the mast)
- 3 × M4 Motor Plug bolts (supplied with your Foil Drive system)
- T30 Torx driver
- Foil Drive Hex Driver (or appropriate hex driver for M4 bolts)
- Foil Drive Grease
Installation Overview
The following steps provide additional detail and important installation tips.
Step 1 — Prepare the Motor
Apply a thin layer of Foil Drive Grease to the outside of the motor plug O-ring.
Do not apply grease inside the electrical connector.
The grease helps protect the seal during installation and makes future removal easier.
Step 2 — Verify the Red O-Ring
Before installing the motor, confirm the red O-ring is fitted to the puck.
This O-ring forms part of the waterproof seal between the puck and the motor.
Do not continue if the O-ring is missing or damaged.
Step 3 — Remove the Split Bolt
Using a T30 Torx driver, completely remove the M5 titanium split bolt from the mast.
Keep the bolt somewhere safe until reassembly.
Step 4 — Remove the Puck
Carefully slide the puck out of the mast.
Important: Do not pull on the cable.
Always hold the puck itself when removing it.
Step 5 — Bolt the Puck to the Motor
Attach the puck to the motor using the 4 × M4 bolts supplied with the mast.
Tighten evenly, ensuring the puck sits flush against the motor.
Step 6 — Install the Motor into the Mast
Carefully slide the motor and puck assembly back into the mast.
Before fully seating the assembly:
- Fold the cables neatly into the cavity.
- Ensure no cables are trapped between the puck and mast.
- Confirm the puck seats completely flush.
Pinched cables may damage the wiring or prevent the puck from seating correctly.
Step 7 — Reinstall the Split Bolt
Reinsert the M5 titanium split bolt and tighten securely using a T30 Torx driver.
The split bolt locks the motor assembly into the mast.
Step 8 — Connect the Motor Cable
Before connecting the cable:
- Apply a thin layer of Foil Drive Grease to the blue O-ring.
- Do not apply grease inside the connector.
Insert the cable connector fully into the motor.
Secure it using the 3 × M4 motor plug bolts.
Step 9 — Secure the Mast to the Electronics Box (Optional)
Many riders find it easier to install the mast and electronics box onto the board as one complete assembly.
If preferred, bolt the mast and electronics box together before mounting the system to your board.
Installation Tips
Having trouble sliding the puck forward?
Some integrated masts hold the internal cable quite firmly.
If you're finding it difficult to move the puck far enough to install the motor:
- Remove the four small bolts securing the mast base plate.
- This releases tension on the cable.
- Reposition the puck.
- Reinstall and tighten the base plate once installation is complete.
Important: These bolts vary between mast manufacturers. Use the correct tool and take care not to strip the bolt heads.
Check the cable before tightening
Before tightening any bolts:
✔ Cable folds naturally inside the mast.
✔ No cable is pinched between the puck and mast.
✔ Puck is fully seated.
Taking a few extra seconds here can prevent cable damage.
Final Checks Before Riding
Before entering the water, confirm:
- Motor is fully seated in the mast.
- Split bolt is tightened securely.
- Motor plug is fully inserted.
- Blue and red O-rings are correctly installed.
- Motor cable bolts are tightened evenly.
- No cables are visible or pinched.
- Motor spins freely when tested according to the User Manual.
