How to correctly secure latches on your Gen2 systemUpdated a day ago

The latches on your Gen2 Foil Drive system are designed to securely lock your battery box closed and maintain a watertight seal while riding. When used correctly, they provide strong, even compression of the nose cone onto the main housing.

Improper use or overloading the latches can cause unnecessary strain, leading to damage of the latch components, bolts, or nose cone. This guide explains the correct technique to ensure safe and reliable operation every time.

Before You Start

Before securing the latches, always ensure:

  • The battery is fully inserted into the electronics housing
  • The nose cone is correctly seated and flush against the O-ring seal
  • No sand, salt, or debris is present in the sealing area
  • The unit is clean and properly aligned

If the nose cone does not sit flush, do not attempt to force it closed using the latches.

Step-by-Step Process

1. Insert the Battery

Fully slide the battery into the electronics box until it is completely seated. The battery must be fully inserted for the system to seal correctly.

2. Fit the Nose Cone

Place the nose cone onto the housing, ensuring:

  • It sits evenly across the entire surface
  • The O-ring is clean and properly positioned
  • The nose cone is flush with the box before latching

If there is a gap, remove the nose cone and re-check battery seating or debris.

3. Engage the Latches

Lift both latches and hook them securely into the nose cone recesses.

  • Ensure each latch hook is fully engaged in the cavity
  • Do not latch one side fully before the other

Proper engagement ensures even pressure distribution across the seal.

4. Close Both Latches Simultaneously

Press both latches down at the same time.

This is critical because it:

  • Pulls the nose cone in evenly
  • Prevents uneven loading on one side
  • Reduces strain on latch components
  • Helps maintain a consistent watertight seal

Avoid closing one latch completely before the other.

If a Latch Breaks

Your system includes spare latches. If damage occurs:

  • Replace the latch before next use
  • Ensure correct left/right orientation during installation

Pro Tips

  • Always latch both sides evenly and at the same time
  • Regularly inspect latches for wear or cracking
  • Clean salt and sand from latch points after each session
  • If resistance feels excessive, stop and re-check alignment
