Fusion OverviewUpdated 6 days ago

What is Fusion:

The Fusion is Foil Drive’s hybrid, do‑everything system: it delivers the power and runtime of an e-foil with the lightness and adaptability of a foil‑assist. Compared with MAX Power, Fusion offers ~40% additional thrust and ~2× the runtime when paired with the 864 Wh / 43 V Fusion 860 Battery - so you can ride longer sessions on smaller boards or with heavier riders without sacrificing responsiveness.

Fusion sits in its own class. A true e-foil alternative you can also run as a powerful foil‑assist by moving the motor and/or using a shorter cable position. That flexibility makes it a single kit you can grow into (learn, progress, and then optimize for your riding style).

Who is it for:

  • Riders who want a lightweight e-foil experience (leisure foiling, learning).
  • Riders who want a foil‑assist with maximum runtime and more power (e.g., downwinders, heavier riders, smaller boards/foils).

Key Specs:

  • Operating voltage: 43 V (nominal 43.2 V)

  • Battery: Fusion 860 - (864Wh - 20 Ah)

  • Maximum thrust: ~34 kg

  • Minimum installed weight: ~7.9 kg (system + Fusion battery)

  • Power‑to‑weight: ~4.3–4.35 N/kg

  • Electronics Box water rating: IP68; Battery: IP69 water & dust resistance

  • Dimensions with battery: L 658 × W 125 × H 54 mm

What's in your Fusion Kit:

  • Fusion unit
  • V3 Controller
  • Universal Motor Pod
  • 43 V Standard Charger (12 A) with regional AC lead
  • Titanium M7 split bolts
  • Mast Foam Track Guides, Tool Caddy, spare O‑rings & anodes, charge pad & cable, wrist leash, sticker pack, and more (full list on product page).

Fusion 860 Battery is separate to the Fusion kit, but is included when purchasing the Fusion Complete Bundle.

The components that make Fusion different:

Fusion Electronics Box

Advanced safety features such as Tilt Sensor which can be programmed on/off or be pre-set to specific angles for rider preference. A great feature for learners or children riding the system, to protect them from propellor injury in the case of a "taco". The motor will cut off when the tilt angle has been exceeding, and reengage once the board has dropped below that angle again.

Fusion 860 Battery

A fully enclosed one‑piece battery + nose cone that improves durability, balance and hydrodynamics, managed by a Bluetooth Smart BMS for accurate State of Charge displayed across the App, Controller screen and Battery Caddy. The battery is also temperature and cell monitored via the Foil Drive App. Typical charge time is ~1.45 h, and the included Battery Caddy monitors the Battery and can discharge it down to storage level.

V3 Controller

Purpose‑built with GPS telemetry (live speed, distance), dual throttle modes (Gear or Trigger), a Boost function, high‑brightness display, and updatable firmware via the app.

Throttle Modes:

    • Trigger Mode gives 0–100% proportional throttle; Gear Mode provides 5 stepped limits (G1–G5).

    • Boost: in Trigger Mode, pull into 95–100%; in Gear Mode, hold B at the gear’s limit.

Battery Caddy & 43V Charger

  • Battery Caddy: shows SoC and time remaining, offers two discharge modes (heatsink “Caddy Discharge” to a set % and USB‑A/C discharge), and can be used as a power bank.

43 V Standard Charger: with three‑stage charging; Storage Mode to stop charging at ~50–60% SoC, and clear LED status codes, designed to provide the best protection to your Fusion 860 Battery.

Fusion Install - high level:

For a comprehensive install video, refer to Foil Drive Fusion | Full Unboxing and Assembly

  • Hardware: use the provided M7 split bolts and mast‑track foam for reliable controller‑to‑motor connectivity.

  • Battery prep: apply Foil Drive Battery Grease to the battery plug before inserting; slide in logo facing up, latch both hooks fully.

  • App pairing & checks: confirm controller pairing, battery voltage profile (Fusion 43 V), lock status, and tilt sensor.

The Fusion user manual contains full integrated and universal mast sequences and all pre‑flight checks.

Riding Tips:

  • Pick a throttle mode: Gear for learning/consistency (G1–G5), Trigger for full proportional control.

  • Use Boost smartly: build speed first, then Boost to pop on foil (factory Boost example: ~17% for 12 s, adjustable in app).

  • Cruise back out: enable Cruise Control for hands‑relaxed motoring at a set % (e.g., 35%).

Care and Maintenance:

  • Rinse after every session. Remove the rotor; rinse rotor/stator and controller; dry and apply light lanolin‑based lubricant to rotor/bearings. Store rotor off the stator.

  • Battery care: store 30–60% SoC (use Storage Mode or Caddy Discharge) if storing for greater than 1-2 weeks, keep away from heat/humidity, and never leave connected to the unit after use.

Compatibility:

  • Fusion uses Fusion 43 V batteries and the 43 V charger only; it is not cross‑compatible with MAX or Slim batteries or electronics boxes.

TROUBLESHOOTING/FAQ'S:

Is Fusion an efoil or a foil‑assist?

Both. It’s an efoil alternative that can also run as a foil‑assist by changing motor position/cable length—one kit, multiple disciplines.

How long will it run?

The 864 Wh battery and 43 V architecture deliver 1–3 hours depending on rider and use, with ~2× the runtime of MAX Power.

How powerful is it?

Up to ~34 kg peak thrust with a power‑to‑weight around 4.3 N/kg.

What water rating does it have?

The system has an IP68 rating, while the Fusion 860 Battery page has an IP69 rating for the battery enclosure, making it our most robust and durable battery yet. Correct grease application at the plug is required for water and corrosion resistance at the terminals.

What if my motor won’t spin on land?

Check for LOCK on the controller and unlock by holding B. If the Tilt Sensor is ON, the board must be upright; the motor won’t run if it’s upside down.

How do I store the battery correctly?

Store between 30–60% SoC. Use the Charger’s Storage Mode to stop at ~50–60% or Caddy Discharge to reach your chosen SoC. Keep away from heat and monitor charging at all times.

What if water reaches the battery terminals or inside the box?

Rinse terminals with fresh water, remove residual grease, dry completely, and re‑grease before next use. If the electronics box gets water inside, rinse and fully dry before use; check for damage if the system has been dropped.

Where can I see everything that ships with Fusion?

See the “What’s Included” list on the product page for the latest kit contents.
