Fusion FAQ'sUpdated 14 days ago

My motor isn’t spinning when I do a motor test on the beach.

Why it happens: The Tilt Sensor prevents the motor from running when the system is upside‑down or outside the tilt range.
 Fix:

  1. Place the board/system the right way up and try again.
  2. If needed, adjust or disable the Tilt Sensor in the Foil Drive app or from the controller.

Why don't my M8 bolts work with Fusion:

Fusion uses Foil Drive Split Bolts, supplied as M7 by default; some mast setups use M6 (sold separately). M8 bolts are not used on Fusion tracks as the internal tolerance to fit the Fusion 860 batteries are much tighter - requiring the Fusion unit to downsize to M7 tracks.

What to do: Use the supplied M7 Split Bolts found in the Tool Caddy in your Fusion Kit (or Foil Drive‑specific hardware for your mast brand).

There's water inside my electronics box or on my battery plugs - what do I do:

Fusion batteries/units are IP68, but the plugs are only water‑resistant when Battery Grease is applied correctly. The primary concern if water reaches the plugs is corrosion of the pins, which will result in poor connectivity and eventual failure of the battery or unit.

If water reached the plugs:

  • Rinse plugs with fresh water, remove residual grease with a cotton bud, dry completely, then re‑grease with Foil Drive Battery Grease only.

If the electronics box got water inside, rinse with fresh water and allow to dry fully before use. Re‑grease plugs before reconnecting.

Important: Only use Foil Drive Battery Grease—third‑party grease can damage seals and void warranty.

My Aluminium Mast / No Limitz Carbon Mast cable can't reach the Fusion motor plug:

Goal: The motor cable should reach the electronics plug without tension.
 Checks / fixes:

Reposition the Motor Pod closer to the plug to reduce the gap.

Route the cable against the mast and use Mast Cable Guides (some riders call these “barnacles”) and tape the whole external cable for support and reduced drag.

For Integrated Masts, ensure the puck/cable is correctly seated and lubricated (O‑ring), and the mast adapter parts are correctly chosen.
If the cable still can’t reach without tension, contact support to confirm hardware compatibility/options for your mast.

My controller lost connection with the unit after being powered:

What to check first (most common):

  • Is the controller locked (you’ll see LOCK on screen)? Unlock via the controller (hold B).

  • Is the Tilt Sensor keeping the system “locked” because the board is angled? Set the board upright or adjust Tilt settings in the app.

If you’re intermittently dropping connection in the water:

  • Install Mast Track Foam in any unused track space (improves connectivity). Keep the controller nearer the nose of the board. Carbon boards/tracks may need a Foil Drive Antenna.

  • You can tune Latency (the cutoff delay if signal is lost) in the app.

Is Fusion compatible with MAX or Slim batteries:

No. Fusion electronics are compatible with Fusion batteries only.

Note: The Battery Caddy supports Fusion 43 V and Assist MAX 40 V (MAX High Power/Power/Travel) for charging/discharging, but MAX Sport and Slim are not compatible due to size.

My battery won't slide into the unit / there's a gap at the nose cone:

  • Ensure orientation: yellow plug first, logo up; don’t force the battery.

  • On boards with a lot of rocker, fit a Nose Cone Rocker Pad to level the mating surfaces.

  • Latch correctly: Use latches to snap closed (don’t use them to “pull” the nose cone shut).

  • If hardware is binding on a curved board, loosen the four Split Bolts, re‑seat the unit flat, then re‑tighten evenly.

  • Apply Foil Drive Battery Grease to the terminals as directed to aid insertion/sealing.

More Fusion FAQs:

Why does my motor “twitch” when idle?
That’s the Activity/Inactivity Alarms pulsing the motor to remind you the battery is connected. You can adjust/disable them in the app (we recommend leaving them on).

The controller shows wrong battery info.
Set Battery Voltage to Fusion 43 V in the controller settings; otherwise data will be incorrect.

“My system isn’t powerful.”
Understand how Boost works and timing for take‑off; technique matters.

What should I do after each session?
Remove the battery immediately, rinse/soak as specified, dry & lubricate rotor/stator, and store the rotor off the stator.

Battery storage best practice?
Store at 30–60% SoC in a cool, dry place.
