43V Standard Charger FAQ'sUpdated 14 days ago
The charger isn’t switching to charge mode:
Work through these in order:
- Power & reset: Plug the charger into a reliable AC 100–240 V outlet (protected circuit). If charging doesn’t start within ~20 s, turn the charger OFF, wait 10 s, and turn ON again to reset.
- Correct voltage & polarity: The charger voltage must match the battery (e.g., 43 V battery → 43 V charger). Ensure the plug orientation is correct; reversed polarity triggers a fault.
- LED meaning:
- Flashing Green = charging to 100%
- SLOW Flashing Yellow = Storage Charge (to ~50–60%)
- FAST Flashing Yellow = Standby
- Solid Green = full; Solid Yellow = storage‑charge complete
- Alternating Red/Green (with battery connected) = output short circuit / reversed polarity
- Flashing Green = charging to 100%
- Environment & condition: Don’t charge if wet/damaged; charge away from flammables / out of direct sun.
If faults persist, stop and contact Foil Drive with the LED pattern you see.
How does Storage Mode work? Will it discharge my battery?
- Storage Mode limits charge to ~50–60% SoC to preserve long‑term battery health. The LED is SLOW Flashing Yellow during charging, Solid Yellow when done.
- It will not discharge a battery that’s already above ~50–60%—use the Battery Caddy to discharge to storage level.
Can I leave the charger running overnight / unattended?
No. Monitor the charge cycle and remove the battery immediately after charging.
Why is my charger only charging the battery to approx 80%?
When the battery if first charged up, the individual cells may not yet be fully balanced, this can take some time and a number of cycles to balance. The battery management system (BMS) will stop allowing charge if it has noticed that one of the cells is over-voltage.
- Cycle the battery a number of times, run it to the highest charge it will go, take it out and ride it.
- When battery is nearing the % it usually cuts out, connect to the app and watch for any alerts/alarms appearing - note take a screenshot or screen recording to help Foil Drive support with any diagnostics.
What are the charger specs and protection features?
- Input: 100–240 V, 5.0 A, 47/63 Hz · Output: 50.4 V 12 A · Protection rank: IP66.
- 3‑stage program (bulk/absorb/float) with overload, over‑voltage, over‑heat, short‑circuit, and reverse‑polarity protection.
