The Foil Drive V3 Controller uses wireless induction charging, making it quick and easy to recharge between sessions.
This guide explains how to correctly position your controller on the charging pad, how to confirm it is charging, and what to check if charging does not start.
What You’ll Need
To charge your V3 Controller, you’ll need:
- V3 Controller
- Foil Drive wireless induction charging pad
- USB charging cable
- Suitable powered USB port
Charging Your Controller
1. Connect the Charging Pad
Connect the USB cable to the wireless charging pad, then connect it to a powered USB port.
When first connected, the indicator around the charging pad may briefly display different colours before settling on green.
Green indicates the charging pad has power and is waiting for a connection with the controller.
2. Position the Controller
Place the V3 Controller flat on the charging pad.
An easy way to find the correct orientation is to align the Foil Drive logo on the controller with the wireless induction logo on the charging pad.
You may find the controller naturally slides forward a few millimetres due to the curved shape of the controller and charging pad. This is normal.
3. Confirm It Is Charging
Once the controller and charging pad establish a connection:
- The charging pad indicator will change from green to blue.
- The controller screen will indicate that it is charging.
- The controller display will show its battery voltage and charging voltage.
The charging voltage will be higher than the controller's current battery voltage while charging. These values will move closer together as the battery approaches full charge.
When charging has finished, the controller will indicate that charging is complete.
Remove the Controller Once Charged
Once the controller has finished charging, remove it from the wireless charging pad.
Do not leave the controller sitting on an active wireless charging pad for extended periods, such as several days.
Wireless induction systems can continue communicating while the controller remains on the pad, which generates unnecessary heat. Prolonged heat is not beneficial for the controller's electronics or battery.
Controller Not Charging?
If your V3 Controller isn't charging, there are a few simple things to check before assuming there is a fault.
Check the Position
The controller's internal charging coil needs to align closely with the coil inside the charging pad.
If the charging pad remains green, slowly move the controller around the pad until the indicator changes to blue.
Once blue, check the controller screen to confirm charging has started.
Make Sure Everything Is Flat
The controller needs to sit flat against the charging pad.
Objects underneath the controller or charging pad, an uneven surface, or a gap between the two can prevent the induction coils from establishing a connection.
Place the charging pad on a clean, flat surface and make sure the controller is sitting directly against it.
Check the Controller Orientation
The controller will only charge in the correct orientation because the internal induction charging coil is located on one side of the handle.
If everything appears correctly aligned but the controller won't charge:
- Lift the controller off the charging pad.
- Rotate it 180 degrees.
- Place it flat on the pad again.
- Slowly adjust its position until the indicator turns blue.
Check Your USB Power Source
If there are no lights on the charging pad, check:
- The USB cable is fully connected.
- The USB power source is switched on and working.
- Try another suitable USB port or power source if available.
Understanding the Charging Pad Light

For the most reliable confirmation, always check the controller display to verify that it shows charging.
Important Safety Reminder
The V3 Controller includes several safety features, including the Tilt Sensor, Auto Lock and Throttle Lock.
These features provide additional layers of protection, but they do not replace good operating practices.
When entering or exiting the water, turn the controller OFF.
Turning the controller off prevents an accidental throttle input from activating the motor while you're handling your board or moving through shallow water.
