Your Foil Drive battery is designed for use in the marine environment, but taking a few simple steps after every session will help protect the electrical connections and extend the life of your system.

After every session

1. Disconnect the battery from the system.
2. Remove salt, sand and grit using a damp cloth with fresh water.
3. Ensure the battery is cool and dry before storage or charging.
4. Inspect the battery and plug for any signs of damage or corrosion.

Never charge a wet battery or connect wet electrical plugs. Ensure all connections are completely dry before charging or connecting your system.

Before Your Next Session

Before connecting your battery to your Foil Drive system:

• Check the battery for any signs of damage or corrosion. Pay particular attention to the battery casing, plug and electrical terminals.
• Apply Foil Drive Battery Grease around the plug on the battery before connecting it to the unit. Ensure the terminals are adequately coated to help protect the connection from water and corrosion.

Important: Only use Foil Drive Battery Grease on your battery and electrical connections.

Cleaning Electrical Connections

Salt and debris should never be allowed to build up on electrical connections.

If you see salt, sand or other contamination:

1. Wipe the exterior of the battery with clean fresh water, where applicable.
2. If there is corrosion on the battery plug - remove with electronic contact cleaner. Do not use a battery with corroded pins!
3. Allow all components to dry completely.
4. When the battery is dry, and the plug is free of corrosion, reapply Foil Drive Battery Grease around the plug before your next session.

Important: Water inside the electronics box is not normal. If you are experiencing water inside your electronics box, reach out to [email protected] and do not continue to use your system or charge your battery. 

Never scrape or aggressively clean the electrical pins. Damaging the plating or pins can affect the reliability of the connection.

Quick Maintenance Checklist

Before riding

☐ Battery is undamaged
☐ Battery terminals are clean and adequately greased
☐ There is no corrosion on the battery or plug

After riding

☐ Disconnect the battery
☐ Inspect electrical connections
☐ Remove any salt, sand or debris from the battery with a damp cloth 

Before charging

☐ Battery is completely dry
☐ Charging connector is clean and dry
☐ Battery shows no signs of damage

☐ Charger and cable are undamaged
☐ Battery is charged in a cool, dry, ventilated area

Important: Ensure you are using the correct voltage charger for your battery!

When to Contact Foil Drive Support

Stop using the battery and contact Foil Drive Support if you notice:

• Damage to the battery casing
• Swelling or deformation
• Unusual heat during charging or use
• Unusual smells or sounds
• Damaged or corroded electrical connectors
• Repeated charging problems
• Visible damage to battery cables or plugs
• Any other behaviour that appears abnormal

Never attempt to open, repair or modify the battery yourself.
