43V Standard Charger - Overview and User GuideUpdated 3 hours ago

This guide explains how to use your Foil Drive 43V charger, including compatibility, charging behaviour, LED indicators, storage mode, and troubleshooting steps.

Compatibility

The 43V charger is designed specifically for:

  • Foil Drive 43V Fusion batteries

It is not compatible with:

  • Gen2 batteries
  • Any non–Foil Drive batteries

This is due to the built-in Battery Management System (BMS) handshake, which allows the charger and battery to communicate safely before charging begins.

Charging Behaviour

The 43V charging profile is designed to balance speed, battery health, and safety.

Charging stages:

  • 0–5%: Slow initial charging
  • 6–~90%: Fast charging phase
  • ~91%+: Charging slows significantly
  • 98–99%: Final “trickle” top-up phase

Tip: If you're short on time, it is safe to unplug the battery at ~98–99% for use. You will still have full practical runtime.

Power Requirements

For correct operation, the charger must be connected to:

  • 100–240V AC mains power
  • A surge-protected outlet
  • A power source capable of supporting approximately 650W draw

Avoid using:

  • Cheap DC-to-AC inverters (especially non–pure sine wave)
  • Low-quality or unstable generators

These may cause:

  • charging errors
  • incomplete charging cycles
  • charger malfunction or shutdown

How to Charge Your Battery

  1. Plug the charger into a suitable power outlet
    • Charger will display flashing yellow (standby mode)
  2. Connect the charger to the battery
    • Ensure correct alignment before inserting
    • Do not force the connector (this may damage pins)
  3. Charging begins automatically
    • Fan will activate
    • LED changes to flashing green
  4. Charging complete
    • LED becomes solid green

Storage Charge Mode (60%)

The 43V charger includes a Storage Mode to help extend battery life during periods of non-use.

What it does:

  • Charges battery to approximately 60% only
  • Ideal for long-term storage or travel downtime

How to use:

  • Press the mode button on the charger
    • Button OUT = Normal charging (100%)
    • Button IN = Storage mode (60%)
  • Connect battery to charger
  • Charging will stop automatically at ~60%

Safety & Best Practice Notes

  • Always ensure connectors are aligned before inserting
  • Do not force or twist charging plugs
  • Allow charger fan to run freely during use
  • Use only approved Foil Drive charging equipment
